Do you notice a difference in how you feel during the different seasons? As we navigate through winter, do you feel a shift along with the seasons? If the spring in your step is missing a beat as the temperatures fall, take a moment and reflect on these tips. You might find the missing piece of the puzzle that will help you boot the blahs to the curb.
Yadda, Yadda, Exercise, Yadda, Yadda
This is not new news—our bodies need us to exercise. Here’s the truth, not everyone wants to or likes it! But, that doesn’t change the fact that exercise impacts how we feel. So, what do we do about that? The key is finding an exercise that you do like. You don’t have to love it, you just have to like it more than your other choices. How about walking? That’s a no-brainer and very doable. What about something new you don’t know a lot about, but is easy to do at home? Explore kettlebells! Not time consuming, very effective, and something you may have never tried, like kettlebells, may fit the bill perfectly. Exercise is not optional, so let’s get at it with a “can-do” attitude and do our bodies a favor.
Food is Medicine
Don’t fall into the trap that you need “comfort food” every time the snow falls. That’s a slippery slope! We live in a time where there is limitless education on the value of every food on the planet. Educate yourself. Eat what makes you healthier, and say no to what doesn’t. We all know that is sometimes easier said than done, but keep your goals in mind—a healthier you! Every day is a new day to start and eat in a way that improves your health. Keep a food journal. You might be surprised that you are mindlessly eating things that aren’t contributing to your goals. If you slip up, start again.
Connect!
People need people. Why else would we all be in this crazy social media world? We want to know and be known. But don’t rely on the “look how perfect my life is” syndrome that often strikes with the internet. Monitor your screen time and look for opportunities for face-to-face talks with people you enjoy. Another novel idea? Write a letter! A handwritten letter is greatly appreciated in this day and age. Impress family and friends with a written letter or card sent by good ole snail mail. Don’t let the cold weather stifle your ability to keep in touch in a way that you enjoy.
