FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
I always thought DGL had to be chewable? And isn’t this a small dosage of DGL compared to the chewable DGL products?
For some time it was thought that DGL needed to be chewed to be effective. The special extract of DGL used in Stomach & Intestinal Relief delivers flavonoids and antioxidant activity, and yields more potent effects than unstandardized DGL. Therefore, it provides benefits at a lower dosage: only 150 mg versus the usual 1500 – 3000 mg.*
Should Stomach & Intestinal Relief be taken with meals?*
In the clinical research on this unique herbal extract, it was taken approximately 30 minutes before or after eating, twice a day. However, as long as it is used twice daily it does not have to be taken within 30 minutes of eating to be effective.
Does licorice raise your blood pressure?
Stomach & Intestinal Relief does not contain the substance from licorice that is linked to high blood pressure.* Here is why: There is a compound in licorice called glycyrrhizin, which in very large amounts may increase production of a hormone in the body called aldosterone. This hormone plays a role in sodium and potassium regulation, as well as fluid balance in the body. High levels of aldosterone may indeed raise blood pressure. Some studies have shown that using 20 grams (20,000 mg) of licorice extract on a regular basis can cause high blood pressure and fluid retention.
But remember that DGL stands for “DE-glycyrrhizinated licorice,” meaning the glycyrrhizin is removed. Therefore, Stomach & Intestinal Relief provides supportive benefits for the stomach and gastrointestinal tract without adverse effects on blood pressure.*
