While there are different philosophies around the optimal time to take melatonin, some suggestions are either at sundown (when melatonin production in the body begins) or approximately 6 hours before you mid-sleep cycle. For example, if you normally sleep from 10 PM to 6 AM, mid-sleep would be at 2 AM, and melatonin dosage should be taken at 8 PM (6 hours prior). This can help minimize the risk of morning grogginess.
